Manifesto for Economic Democracy and Ecological Sanity Thursday 9 February 2012

It is often said that the weakness of current oppositional mobilisation is its lack of specific projects or concrete proposals. As if in answer to that kind of accusation, the Economic Democracy Manifesto Group have published a manifesto available here. Picking up on the Occupy movement’s prioritisation of direct democracy, the manifesto builds its proposals around the twin pillars of workplace and local (community) democracy. It also has a strong green dimension and seeks to build on the cooperative tradition as a viable model for alternative modes of social organisation. It is well worth a read. It came out in independent on-line newspaper Truth Out. This is also well worth looking at if you don’t know it. Both the news items and the opinion section repay some time invested.
